Privacy Policy

Who we are

Mandarin Match runs mandarinmatch.com and the app at app.mandarinmatch.com. The operator is Mandarin Match App, a sole proprietorship owned by Robert Muller, PO Box 603, Carlsbad, CA 92018 ("we", "us"). Privacy questions: admin@mandarinmatchapp.com.

The free tools on mandarinmatch.com, including Test My Chinese, work without an account.

What we collect, why, and how long we keep it

Sensitive information. Your messages are the content of private communications. We access them only to deliver them, keep the community safe and enforce our Terms. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.

Payments. Subscription payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. Card details go directly to Stripe and are not stored by us. Stripe's privacy policy: https://stripe.com/privacy. If you subscribe through the Apple App Store or Google Play, that store processes your payment under its own privacy policy.

Cookies and analytics

• mandarinmatch.com: our hosting provider, Lovable, runs first-party page-view analytics that sets a session-id cookie lasting 30 minutes. It is used only to count visits and improve the site.
• app.mandarinmatch.com: uses the cookies and local storage needed to sign you in and remember your preferences. Our app platform, Famous.ai, also records basic page-view analytics (such as pages visited, device and browser type) on our behalf to run and improve the app. We do not use advertising trackers in the app.
• Our store (Shopify): Shopify sets cookies needed to run the store and cart (such as _shopify_essential, localization, cart_currency) and, subject to your choices in the store's privacy banner, its own analytics and marketing cookies (such as _shopify_analytics, _shopify_marketing). Printful prints and ships our store orders as our service provider. Through its Shopify app, Printful also receives store browsing and purchase events (such as pages viewed, items added to cart and checkouts) along with customer contact details (name, email, phone and shipping address). • Advertising (store only): through Shopify's Facebook & Instagram and Google & YouTube sales channels, Meta and Google receive store browsing and purchase events (such as pages viewed, products viewed, items added to cart and purchases) along with cookie and device identifiers, to show and measure ads. Under California law this is "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising and may also be a "sale". You can opt out as described under "Your Privacy Choices" below. You can manage store cookies through the privacy banner and can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

How we share information

We disclose personal information to the service providers listed above, which process it on our behalf to run the service. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users' safety, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business.

Selling and sharing. In the past 12 months we have "shared" (and may have "sold", as California law defines it) the following categories of personal information from our store only to Meta and Google for cross-context behavioral advertising and ad measurement: internet and device activity (store browsing and purchase events, cookie and device identifiers) and commercial information (products viewed and purchased). We do not sell or share information from the app (app.mandarinmatch.com) for advertising.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.120(c)).

Your Privacy Choices / Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

You have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. To opt out:

• use our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page: https://ad5317-c7.myshopify.com/pages/data-sharing-opt-out (also linked in the store footer as "Your Privacy Choices");
• decline advertising and marketing cookies in the store's cookie banner;
• turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser (see below); or
• email admin@mandarinmatchapp.com with the subject "Do Not Sell or Share".

You do not need an account to opt out, and we will not ask you to verify your identity for an opt-out request. We will act on it within 15 business days and will wait at least 12 months before asking you to opt back in.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Browsers' "Do Not Track" signals have no common standard, so we do not respond to them. We honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as a request to opt out of selling or sharing for the browser or device that sends them and, if we know who you are (for example, you are signed in), for your account. We honour GPC as a valid opt-out of sale and sharing. Our store's Shopify privacy banner applies GPC signals automatically.

Ad tracking by Meta and Google happens only in our store and is turned off when you opt out or send a GPC signal.

Your rights and how to make a request

Depending on where you live, including California, you may have the right to:

• know and access the personal information we hold about you;
• delete it;
• correct it;
• opt out of its sale or sharing;
• limit the use of sensitive personal information; and
• not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

You can also edit your profile in the app at any time and unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any email.

How to make a request: email admin@mandarinmatchapp.com with the subject "Privacy request". We will verify your identity by confirming that you control your account email address. We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 days, or tell you if we need up to 45 more days. An authorized agent may make a request for you with your signed permission. We will still verify your identity.

Email

Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link and our postal address (PO Box 603, Carlsbad, CA 92018). We process unsubscribe requests within 10 business days. Account and billing emails, such as verification, trial reminders, receipts and renewal notices, are transactional and are sent even if you unsubscribe from marketing.

Text messages (SMS)

We do not currently send text messages, and our sign-up does not ask for text-message consent. If we ever offer texts, we will ask for your separate, optional consent first, honor STOP and HELP replies, and update this policy before we start.

Children and teens

Mandarin Match is not directed to children under 13. You must be 13 or older to use it, and signup includes an age check. Users aged 13 to 17 may use Mandarin Match only with a parent or guardian's permission, and only a parent or guardian may buy a paid subscription for a user under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly. Parents and guardians can contact admin@mandarinmatchapp.com to review or delete their teen's information.

Users outside the United States

Mandarin Match is operated from the United States and is not directed to people in the European Union, European Economic Area or United Kingdom. If you have a privacy question from anywhere, contact admin@mandarinmatchapp.com.

Changes to this policy

We review this policy at least every 12 months. When we change it, we will update the "Last updated" date. We will email account holders about material changes before they take effect.
